Another example of the talent prevalent in the Great White North, Montreal’s The Besnard Lakes have helped perpetuate the buzz surrounding the cultural city and its ability to house some of Canada’s most esteemed artists.  Formed in the early 2000’s by husband and wife team Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, and later joined by Kevin Laing and Richard White, the band received modest attention following the release of their debut LP in 2003, but it was after their 2006 instalment, The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse that the four-piece received long overdue and well-deserved attention.

This year, the group released their third studio album, The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Light, which continues their legacy of experimental and progressive indie rock while adding further dimensions to their already multi-textural sound.  Featuring twelve-string guitar, flute, omnichord and mellotron, their live performances promise to be as interesting as their album, while their followers will undoubtedly continue to grow as a result.
