Throughout their 23 years, New York hip-hop outfit De La Soul have been hailed as genre forces, renowned for their sampling, lyricism and importance to the jazz rap and hip-hop movements.

Throughout their 23 years, New York hip-hop outfit De La Soul have been hailed as genre forces, renowned for their sampling, lyricism and importance to the jazz rap and hip-hop movements.  Consisting of Kelvin Mercer (Posdnuous), David Jude Jolicoeur (Trugoy) and Vincent Mason (Maseo), the group’s 1989 debut, 3 Feet High and Rising has been cited as a popular and critical masterpiece, and was responsible for enlisting the group in the Native Tongues Posse – a collective that housed esteemed acts like A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah and The Jungle Brothers.

Having released ten albums since their initial formation, De La Soul has also won a Grammy for their collaboration with the Gorillaz on the 2005 track Feel Good Inc., and continue to record, collaborate and tour, maintaining their original fan base in addition to drawing new crowds.
