The artist known as Moby has formed a “heavy metal” band called Diamondsnake with members Dave Hill, Phil Costello and a drummer named Tomato. Moby has released nine studio albums, including 2009’s Wait For Me, using several different genres of music such as ambient, techno, house, electronica and punk. His 2006 album entitled Animal Rights contained a few tracks of the hard/heavy rock persuasion. Adding something downright heavy metal, even if it is a parody, to the list seems like the sensible thing to do for his musical expedition.

“Combining such disparate influences as rock, hard rock, metal, and heavy metal, New York City’s Diamondsnake was borne out of a shared love for entering a small, dark, and musty room, plugging into a few amps, and playing as loud as possible for a seriously long time,” says the bio on the band’s MySpace page.

Also included on the page is seven tracks including “Women, yeah,” “What the World Needs is Rock” and “Storm the Fucking Kastle.” No doubt Moby and the others are enjoying themselves while playing these kinds of tunes. “Love, lust, good women, bad women, the power of rock, and predatory sea creatures- they are all here, celebrated in words and music by Diamondsnake,” the bio adds.

“Strategic battles will be waged in the city of Los Angeles and the city of New York City in June of 2010. Further public displays of rock will follow at the behest of the seers. Cancel everything.” Two dates in New Jersey and New York City have been scheduled so far.
