M.I.A's New Song In Honour Of NY Times Writer

Last week the New York Times published a profile piece about singer/rapper M.I.A. Needless to say, the article was not well received by the musician as she immediately went on the offensive and posted a message on her twitter page saying it wasn’t the ‘trufff’ and provided the phone number of the writer, Lynn Hirschberg. A little bit of a cheap shot on the musician’s part, but I guess she expected big things from such a reputable publication.
This past weekend things got a little juicier as M.I.A. posted little clips of the interview with Hirschberg as well as a brand new song called “I’m A Singer” on her Neet Recordings homepage. “You can talk shit to me I’m used to it/You make me hard with the wounds that I have to lick/You can pick on me and I can see it at a click,” are a sample of the lyrics in the song aimed at the writer. M.I.A.’s forthcoming album is called /\/\/\Y/\ and will be released on July 13. It follows 2007’s Kala, her sophomore album. A few gigs have been scheduled overseas for later this summer. Listen to the track “XXXO” released earlier this month.
