Nearly five months of 2010 have elapsed and so far so good, we’ve been treated to some great tunes. However upon new music being released to the public, there seems to be an urgency to listen to it and judge, which can be quite difficult to do. New music needs to be listened to, thought about and then taken away for awhile before we can really comment on its merit. Having it shoved in your ears usually leads to cynicism and in turn becomes unappreciated. Kind of like a cereal you really like, but get sick of after eating it so much, only for it to be on sale months after you stopped eating and you remember the goodness. Anyway here’s a list of tracks that have been released so far this year that I think will be ones to remember on down the road. P.S. I like cereal.

The Besnard Lakes – And This Is What We Call Progress

– From their third album The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night

MGMT – I Found a Whistle

– Off Congratulations, the band’s sophomore album.

Crystal Castles – Empathy

– Another track off the band’s second self-titled album.

Regina Spektor – No Surprises (Radiohead Cover)

– Inspired by the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, the song was released as a single with all proceeds going to the Emergency Relief Fund for Doctors Without Borders.

Best Coast – Make You Mine

– Recently the band’s debut LP called Crazy For You was announced, however this track was included on the Make You Mine EP.

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus

– Featuring vocals by Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval, this is from the band’s fifth studio album Heligoland.

Veronica Falls – Found Love in a Graveyard

– Currently unsigned, the London-based band released this track as a single with the B-Side “Starry Eyes” to accompany it.

The Black Keys – Everlasting Light

Off the recently released album Brothers, their sixth.

The Chemical Brothers – Swoon

The first official single from the band’s forthcoming album Further, set for release on June 22.

Dum Dum Girls – Jail La La
