It was only fitting that on 4-20 a band notoriously connected to the act of smoking marijuana would reunite, albeit with a new singer. Drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson, once members of punk bank Sublime reunited on Tuesday night for a gig at the Hollywood Palladium with 21-year-old singer Rome Ramirez. This was the band’s first show on their inaugural tour.

Former singer Brad Nowell died of a heroin overdose on May 25, 1996. Before he died the band completed their third self titled album, which became a huge success with the songs “What I Got,” “Santeria” and “Wrong Way” among others. Gaugh and Wilson’s decision to reform the band with a new lead singer last year was met with a lawsuit by Nowell’s family saying they didn’t want them to use the Sublime moniker. According to OC, since then a legal battle has been settled and the band will now be called Sublime With Rome.

For this week’s show the new band performed almost all of Sublime’s old favorites including “Get Ready,” “Smoke Two Joints,” “Garden Grove,” “40 Oz. to Freedom” and “Scarlet Begonias.” They also performed a new track called “Panic.” The tour takes place this month and next at several locations across the U.S., of which some are already sold out. Unfortunately no Canadian dates have been announced. Check out their official website for more details.
