Shortlist Annouced For Galaxie Rising Stars Award

Canadian Music Week has announced the shortlist for the 2010 Galaxie Rising Stars Award. The award is the choice of the nation’s top music critics as music journalists from TV, print and radio were asked for their top five Canadian independent releases from 2009. The $5,000 bursary award is based on the musician’s artistic merit and is part of ‘an original program that sets out to discover, encourage and promote new artists.’ The winner will be announced at the 2010 Indie Awards on March 13 at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel’s Canadian Room in Toronto.

This year’s shortlist is:

Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice

Handsome Furs – Face Control

Japandroids – Post-Nothing

The Rural Alberta Advantage – Hometowns

Timber Timbre – Timber Timbre
