Vivian Girls, Male Bonding and Toronto's Molested Youth kicked off the first night of Canadian Music Fest at Wrongbar with some loud, low-fi garage punk tunes.

The east side west side of the downtown core of Toronto was treated last night to some loud, fast, distorted rock and roll. Inside Wrongbar, Toronto hardcore band Molested Youth opened the evening with some Motorhead like guitar riffs and Damien Abraham from Fucked Up vocal style. The band is awaiting the release of their 7″ EP and they have an upcoming gig at Hard Luck Bar next month.

English trio Male Bonding took the stage next and performed some fast, heavily distorted low-fi tunes. The band formed in 2008 and according to their label Sub Pop, the Dalston, London natives played their first gig at a ‘insane house party’ called “Rage!” They’ve released 7 EP’s and are currently touring North America and playing the next few dates with headliners Vivian Girls. The band will be coming back to Canada next month to play two shows in Toronto and Montreal.

Last, but certainly not least as the crowd almost doubled in size, Vivian Girls took the stage carrying their cell phones and a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey. The New York band blasted into song’s off their latest disc, Everything Goes Wrong, released last year. Between songs, singer/guitarist Cassie Ramone and bassist Kickball Katy casually took swigs from the bottle and calmly held back that face people make after they’ve taken a shot of Buckley’s cough syrup. The ladies played an hour’s worth of lo-fi, the crowd moshed and the night ended.
