It wasn't long ago that bands were hesitant to jump on the twitter wagon - many still haven't. Whether they're on tour or in the studio one our favourite things to use twitter for is to follow the bands we love. Here are the five best Canadian indie bands to follow on twitter.

It wasn’t long ago that bands were hesitant to jump on the twitter wagon – many still haven’t.  Whether they’re on tour or in the studio one of our favourite things to use twitter for is to follow the bands we love.  Here are the five best Canadian indie bands to follow on twitter.  If we missed any you think should be on this list, @reply us or just add it in the comments below.

1. Owen Pallett (@owenpallett)

Yes, Owen Pallett is our X3 artist of the month, but that alone didn’t earn him the top spot on the list. This tweet did:

2. Great Lake Swimmers (@GreatLakeSwim)

Is Tony Dekker behind the account? We’re not sure, but the haikus might suggest so. It’s been over a month since their last update, but prior to the dry spell, you could be sure to hear from the Swimmers one day in Cologne and the next in Japan on their never ending tour.

3. Tegan & Sara (@theteganandsara)

Tegan and Sara are currently touring Sainthood and tweeting every step of the way.  If you were curious what they’re up to today, it’s Snowshoeing and Yoga, probably not at the same time.  This current tour is full of sold out dates and the best way to find out about newly available tickets is by following them.

4. A.C. Newman (@ACNewman)

News broke about the completion of the latest New Pornographers album through Carl Newman’s twitter account, which made us immediately follow him and question the state of music journalism at the same time.  Both good things.  Also, there’s occational gems like this one that make it more than worth it:

5. Said The Whale (@saidthewhale)

Oddly enough, it’s not often you see bands recommending new bands to their fans on twitter. But Said the Whale often let you in on new music you should pay attention to.
