Tom Waits, who is currently starring as Satan himself in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, is in the early stages of a new album, the LA Times reports. Waits’ last work was 2006’s critically acclaimed (and staff pick), Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards. In a recent phoner with the Times, Waits suggested that he could be in the studio with his wife and collaborator Kathleen Brennan as early as the Spring for a late 2010 release. He explains: “I have an old schoolhouse where we work. High ceilings, wood floors, just a room,” he says. “Whether you’re recording on a little hand-held tape recorder or with a $1,000 microphone, it’s all the same drama: Oh my God, we’re going to do something here.”
