At this point, it might be difficult to find music fans in Canada who haven’t heard of the RAA.  The band has been touring their album Hometowns relentlessly and has just recently embarked on another American east coast trip with three consecutive shows scheduled for New York City, one of which is already sold out.  We met up with Paul, Amy and Nils during a seemingly spontaneous in store performance at Toronto’s Soundscapes Music and asked the band if fans can expect the Alberta narrative to carry over into future work. Paul explained, “No matter what every album is going to have something to do with Canada. It’s unfair to say it’s just about Alberta either because your [Nils] songs are about Ontario and Alberta, and now we’ve seen the entire country so who knows what the next album is going to be about.”  “A road trip!” front-man Edenloff chimed in.

We asked Amy about her feelings towards Hometowns steadily increasing popularity.  Amy explains “People like discovering something new without somebody forcing them with marketing….none of that happened for us, and even when Saddle Creek and eMusic came on board some people were still discovering it then.  We still feel like people are still discovering it now.”  Indeed, while The RAA is well established in Canada, based on their touring schedule the band is intent on continuing to spread their distinctive small town, pop-infused folk sound.

The RAA will be in Vancouver this February playing at the Queen Elizabeth Theater with City and Color as part of the Cultural Olympiad
