Mother Mother is on the last legs of a tour opening for Matt Good and will be playing Toronto’s Massey Hall tomorrow and Saturday night. We took Molly and Ryan record shopping downtown to talk about some of the music that influenced the infectious pop tracks found on O My Heart.

Their distinctive stripped down pop arrangements coupled with Ryan and Molly Guldemond’s boy-girl harmonies make O My Heart one of the best albums of the year. The Mother Mother sound is best described by comparing the band with their surroundings and influences. Producer Howard Redekopp, who has worked with fellow Vancouverites Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers and Said The Whale has a clear presence on the band’s recordings. We’re tempted to actually go so far as to suggest Redekopp has created what the east coast would refer to as the Vancouver sound – but we won’t, at least not today.
