Had Julian Casablancas released the visual counterpart to 11th Dimension earlier, it surely would have made a number of best music videos of the year lists. It may have been included on our top 25 list which will hit the channel to mark the new year. In 11’th Dimension, Casablancas croons one of the best lyrics of the year “Your faith has got to be greater than your fear.” and later, “Forgive them even if they are not sorry. All the vultures, bootleggers at the door waiting.” 11th Dimension it seems, is the perfect way to close out a year if not entire decade of throwbacks to the 80’s, a period the Strokes generation was not even old enough to enjoy. But then again, our generation is biased. Casablancas, after all, made us cool. The video in no manner of irony features Casablancas working on the song in a post-apocalyptic workshop writing in quill, acting in a silent film, climbing an ancient Chinese temple in a lighting storm, and eventually performing 11th Dimension in a full on 80s environment to a club full of fans. Throughout, Casablancas scribbles neon phrazes on the wall which read “Anger is Weakness Patience is Strength”.
