Track Of The Week: "Brill Bruisers" by The New Pornographers

I’ll admit, earlier this week I was a little frustrated with this new song from The New Pornographers. “Brill Bruisers” debuted on one, than all of the sudden many more blogs I follow, via some kind of html embed that automatically auto-played the song. If you check other blogs like I do, using some kind of RSS reader (I use feedly), having songs auto-play is a bit of a disaster. The song will just come on as a post with it embedded is loaded. You can’t right away tell where (or how far down the feed) the song is coming from to pause it. I think at one point the song was playing over multiple instances of itself?
I could have been way worse though, I really like this new tune.
The song is the title track from the highly anticipated new album of the same name, to be released August 26 on Matador Records. Of the album, lead singer and main songwriter AC Newman comments, “This is a celebration record. After periods of difficulty, I am at a place where nothing in my life is dragging me down and the music reflects that.” Produced by band-member John Collins (bass) with Newman, the 12-track album was recorded primarily at Little Blue in Woodstock, NY and at JC/DC Studios in Vancouver B.C. with additional recording in Austin, Brooklyn and Vermont.
A limited edition multi-colored “paint splattered” version of the LP is available at The New Pornographers’ web store, which when you pre-order comes with a 3D poster and 3D glasses (while supplies last). In Canada, Last Gang Records is doing a neon-glass vinyl with surprise colours which you can pre-order here. Look for the band on the road this fall, including shows at L.A.’s The Wiltern and New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom as well as appearances at Toronto’s Riot Fest and Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest (tourdates below).
