South African Zef ambassadors Die Antwoord have always had a penchant for all things freeky, so it comes as no real surprise that Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja will be appearing as themselves as the lead roles in an upcoming “sci-fi comedy” project helmed by District 9 director (and fellow South African native) Neill Blomkamp.
Few details about the project (titled Chappie) have surfaced, but Blomkamp has said that it’s “a comedy, a heartfelt story, in a science fiction setting…[a]nd it’s fucking hilarious.”
We’re intrigued. This all feels very appropriate, given that Die Antwoord have sported prosthetic District 9 prawn claws in live performances and videos before.
There’s no release date for the movie yet, but Die Antwoord’s next album, Dark Force, will be out in February of 2014.
